Methods of Teaching and Learning

  Teaching is a process in which a child brings desired change in his/her behavior with the help of a teacher. It is a method of general principles, pedagogy, and management approach used in classroom instructions. Teaching modifies the feeling, thinking, and doings of the students . Definition of Teaching: According to  Clarke, “Teaching refers to the activities that are designed and performed to produce a change in student  behavior ”.   Methods of Teaching and Learning: Methods of teaching should be followed according to the subject matter and tact of the teacher. There are four methods of teaching which present the subject matter: Telling method:  The telling method covers all the aspects of teaching which are delivered orally to the students during the teaching-learning process. This method covers the lecture Method, Discussion Method, storytelling Method, and so on. What is Research: Definition, Methods, Types & Examples What is Research? Definition:  Research is defined as careful consideration of study regarding a particular concern or problem using scientific methods. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert Babbie, “research is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict, and control the observed phenomenon. It involves inductive and deductive methods.” Inductive research methods analyze an observed event, while deductive methods verify the observed event. Inductive approaches are associated with  qualitative research , and deductive methods are more commonly associated with quantitative analysis. Research is conducted with a purpose to: Identify potential and new customers Understand existing customers Set pragmatic goals Develop productive market strategies Address business challenges Put together a business expansion plan Identify new business opportunities What are the characteristics of research?   What is ICT? It was not until later on in my teaching career that the term Information and Communication Technology (ICT) materialised before me and opened my eyes to what this meant in education. The term ICT simplified means any technology that has to do with information and communication. Information can come in many forms such as sound, video, text, and images, so when you think of what technology it is available that produces these aspects of information and sometimes a combination of all these, we refer to such technology as mobile phones, digital cameras, video cameras for example. People are divided on the effectiveness of this ubiquitous presentation program—some say that PowerPoint is wonderful while others bemoan its pervasiveness. No matter which side you take, PowerPoint does offer effective ways to enhance instruction when used and designed appropriately. PowerPoint can be an effective tool to present material in the classroom and encourage student learning. You can use PowerPoint to project visuals that would otherwise be difficult to bring to class. For example, in an anthropology class, a single PowerPoint presentation could project images of an anthropological dig from a remote area, questions asking students about the topic, a chart of related statistics, and a mini quiz about what was just discussed that provides students with information that is visual, challenging, and engaging .
